Project" Page for info on CQI Mission's visit to Isla
Mujeres.
August 13, 1999 Progress Report: A group of us
have recently returned from Honduras. Things are getting better as a lot of
assistance has been received from various humanitarian groups. Thank God!
Seed Program: Accomplishments of Recent C.Q.I. Mission Trip. Thanks to the
Spanish Fort Presbyterian Church for making this project possible. We delivered
ten boxes of gardening seed that will help 1,000 families. If you or
your organization would like information about the seed project - please fee
free to call. We will be happy to provide you with all of the information.
We work with the Lobo Foundation, as well as Jerry Turner of Morgan City,
LA. Jerry is currently establishing a home for street boys and girls which is
located approximately twenty miles outside of La Ceiba. We all went to
camp in Ceibita to deliver seeds to the camp. These seeds will enable 1000
families to grow food for nourishment. NBC 15's Catherine Shreves was able to
complete a documentary of this project on behalf of C.Q.I. Missions and NBC 15
(WPMI, in Mobile). Thanks to Mass of Mobile we delivered many
supplies tot he HIV clinic in La Ceiba, Honduras. Many thanks to Hazelden
Foundation for the donations enabling us to start two new groups in Honduras
for 12-step program. Bill W. is on the move. For Christmas our project
will be for you to ask your church organization or school to assist us with the
"Used Backpack Program." The backpacks should include school and art supplies,
cards, dice, games, color books, items for personal hygiene (such as
toothbrushes), and small toys. Caribbean Shipping in Bayou La Batre
has agreed to take us to the Mosquito area and give us pictures and report on
deliveries. They provide container service to Honduras, Belize, Mexico, and
Nicaragua. Ask for Juan (251)824-7463, fax (251)824-7464. Our next
trip will be Dec. 24, 1999 to Jan 2, 2000. If you would like to go - please
contact Jerry Van Dyke at (251)342-0807. C.Q.I. will work with Honduras,
Belize, Mexico, and Nicaragua. Thank you for your support.
Spanish Fort Presbyterian Church has graciously donated
enough seed for approximately 200 families and is sponsoring the next trip to
Honduras. Many thanks and blessings to everyone at the church.
La Tribana News - Honduran Aid Projects: A shortage of boats is
preventing the World Food Program "WFP" from delivering relief aid to the
inhabitants of the N.E. Mosquitia. The WFP reports virtually NO FOOD has been
distributed there. Residents have been eating roots and anything else they can
scavenge. WFP added that two maritime companies that normally provide service
to that area have refused to transport food & aid to the children since the
shipment of beer and hard liquor by their regular customers is so much more
profitable. Please contact anyone you can in the Honduran Government and ask
them to free up some of the items in storage and send to the children of
Mosquitia! See http://www.marrder.com/htw/ and visit
the Forum! April 7, 1999 Progress

Accomplishments of Recent C.Q.I. Mission
Trip
- Distributed $80,000 of
medical supplies, food, toys, tents and clothing donated by people from
Alabama, Florida, and Mississippi.
- Jerry Van Dyke entertained
the kids with his magic and dancing clown act. We need more clowns.
- Hundreds of homeless were
helped with God's love. Thank you for all your assistance.
- Public Relations Catherine
Shreves, was just an angel, and is with NBC TV-15 in Mobile, Alabama.
- Charles McEldery, at 72 years
old, still had it. Donald Brugge and Chris Hatch a great committee. They helped
turn frowns into smiles.
- C.Q.I. created a Therapeutic
Art School for Children for Post Traumatic Stress. We need supplies. Chairman
Jamie Lee, 251-554-3448.
- We also have a Post-traumatic
Stress Dolphin Therapy Program with Elissa Faya in Rontan - we need funds and
assistance.
- Tons of supplies are being held in storage in
Honduras! Because there was no system or network in place to
deliver the supplies where they needed to go, a lot of donations sent to the
country were placed in storage facilities. The Honduran government has not yet
implemented a program to distribute these supplies. C.Q.I. is trying to reach
the Honduran government to see what can be done about this situation! If anyone
can help with this, it could save hundreds of lives.

For the next few years
we will continue working in Honduras. Your donations and assistance as
volunteers is needed very much. Our immediate needs are to help the indigenous
people of Honduras. March, 1999: The
remote area of Mosquitia deperately needs food, tents, and boats! Due to its
isolation and the ongoing torrential rainstorms in this region, this jungle
area is (arguably) the area in greatest need. Mar.
1999 - Post traumatic stress: Please be generous with items that can
help alleviate the stress: such as coloring books, color crayons, games,
puzzles, etc. 3/4/99: Water has been
contaminated by chemicals spilled into the rivers, dead farm animals &
human bodies. People cannot drink the water; nutrional problems have resulted
as well as mental health problems. Post traumatic stress is a major
problem. There have been outbreak of water-borne diseases: mainly
cholera, diarrhea, and skin infections. These areas lack drinkable water! There
has also been contamination of wells. Corpses have been floating in the water
supply. The devastation is still incredible! We need your help.
